Time has flown since I started this project, and the game that is Realms of Arcaena has grown in leaps and bounds. At the time this post is written, the game is undergoing a major rewrite. The rules have been revised, streamlined and enhanced to reflect the style of game I had always intended to run. And now I am in the latter stages of creating the artwork, editing the rules, and pulling together the first book.
So what is there to look forward to? Well, to be honest, the first book is essentially the core-rules of the game. It provides a brief overview of the gaming genre (for those of you that have never played storytelling games before), and then provides a solid overview of the game world which forms the backdrop of the game. In addition to this, the book then covers everything a player needs to know to be able to play the game.
The second book will be the Storyteller Guide. A companion volume that covers all the behind-the-scene rules used to help the storyteller, along with advice for the storyteller on how to run the game. It is also envisioned that this book will also include a small bestiary of critters, and a small mini-setting/adventure to enable to storyteller to start running the game.
Further products may (time and resources pending) include further adventure scenarios, rules expansions, and an expanded bestiary detailing all the critters (both monstrous and wondrous) that prowls the lands the game is set in.
Apologies for not keep you guys updated, but it has been a busy 12 months. I hope that you will agree that the end product is worth the wait.
I will attempt to keep this blog updated with previews of artwork and (if nothing else) snippets of the rules as work progresses on the game.
